About Lakefield Pride
Our planning committee is powered by youth, and is growing and changing every year.
This year we are:
- 5 K-12 students
- 2 youth about to head off to college
- 1 handful of their parents and dedicated community members
All of our youth have a voice and play important roles in planning, organizing, and running the event. They are all active advocates for inclusivity in our community!
Our photographer, stage manager, performers, fundraising and community involvement, and creative team are all under 20 years old. We have a pride crosswalk on Queen St. thanks to the inspiration and dedication of a committee member who approached Selwyn council, followed through, and made it happen when she was 12 years old.
We are always hoping to find new members, of all ages, to help with the picnic and other events throughout the year. Get in touch!
Fourth annual Lakefield Pride Picnic to Feature Home Grown Talent
Sunday, September 22, 2024
The Lakefield Pride Committee is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the fourth annual Lakefield Pride Picnic on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Isabel Morris Park. The picnic will run from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
This year’s picnic will feature family-friendly events with performers and artists from the Lakefield-area, including drag performer Betty Baker, who was raised in Young’s Point and went to elementary school in Lakefield.
“We are so proud to have Betty Baker back again at the Lakefield Pride Picnic,” said a spokesperson for the Lakefield Pride Committee. “Betty has attended and performed at our event every year since we started in 2021 and we are so happy to see her back again. We are looking forward to welcoming the Lakefield community to this wonderful community event.”
“Going to Lakefield Pride is like coming home again,” said Betty Baker. “I’m honoured to be asked to return every year to perform, to see so many familiar faces, and to bring joy to the community.”
“We are happy to see the return of the many food and merchandise vendors, as well as community organizations and sponsors to this year’s picnic. Lakefield is a wonderful and caring community, and we welcome more vendors and sponsors to our event. It has been great to see the event grow every year.”
